Thursday, June 25, 2009 ~ Biscayne Bay

Biscayne Bay ~ 81 Degrees ~ 10-15 Knots ~
Chip & Michele, Jill & Carly
(Heineken, Heineken Lt, Bud Light)

Kids on board for first time in recent memory (mine or theirs). Had planned on Wed. sail but poor weather Tues. evening spilled over into Wed. morning & forecast for remainder of day was dismal. We postponed and were rewarded w/bright sunny skies, good breeze & a deserted Bay.

We were out an hour or so when first thunderstorm moved through. Sailed south to avoid the rain, picked up a little wind and watched the rain spill over the Grove, then Miami, then Miami Bch before moving northward to soak more landlubbers.

Jill got a little green (storm & anxiety) but overall I think they enjoyed the sail.

We came into the mooring behind the storm around 2 pm.

Good Day!

Sailing Memories from Kiko~

Hi Michele,

This is a great gift for Chip. I don't know how to comment on his blog but I thought you might enjoy adding these pictures from a sail we had in early 1999. The file dates say Feb. 7, 1999 but there were other files with the same date that know were different dates. My primitive digital camera at the time did not record the date taken. I think that the date is close anyway.

This was one of my best memories with Chip, sailing in the early afternoon after a meeting I had in the morning at Cape Canaveral Plant. Chip called and said "Let's go sail - Meet me at so and so place...!" An excellent idea for both of us, since he would probably have just stayed at work, and I was looking at a 3 hour drive home that I didn't mind putting off until later that night. He was keeping the boat at a friends house with a dock in the back, so there wasn't much to do but go there and sail away. We had a few beers and enjoyed the cool air of the day, sailing in the wide river south of Cape Canaveral whose name you would have to ask him for. It was a great day that didn't last long enough.

I got to sail with Chip once more from that beautiful spot, but I couldn't find any digital pictures from that trip. I think I have some printed from film. I would guess that it was just a few months later. I loved those trips, which is why I was so glad to get to finally go out with you and Chip Thanksgiving weekend on his newer craft "Christine". Another beautiful memory that you've made better with this gift. Thanks.

Love,

Kiko

Saturday, November 29 ~ Biscayne Bay

Biscayne Bay ~ 79 degrees ~ 5-10 Knots ~
Chip & Michele & Kiko (Heineken Lite)

Kiko making his virgin expedition w/Christine on the Bay. Headed out at 9-ish and on the water at 10:30 a.m. Caught the outgoing tide but not a lot of wind. We shot the breeze, had a little lunch and caught up on life events (mostly Kiko's).

Wind picked up in the afternoon & Kiko did a little sailing. He appeared to enjoy
it.

We came in w/the tide a little after 4 and had a beer on the balcony of the boat club. I forgot to sign the tab.

It was a good day with friends on the bay.

Wednesday, November 26 ~ Biscayne Bay

Biscayne Bay ~ 75 degrees ~ 0-5 Knots ~
Chip & Michele (Miller Lite)

On the water about 10 am, no breeze & no boats out - thought about calling it quits When water birds were swimming past. Knew it was bad when boat was sailing backwards after a jibe (current was stronger than air!). But saw a dolphin, figured it was a good sign.

Michele and I dropped the hook & took in the sights (above & below decks). Managed to spend an afternoon on the bay. Breeze picked up & more boats made it out. We headed in around 4:00 pm.

A good day on the water.

Friday, Nov 14, 2008 ~ Biscayne Bay

Biscayne Bay ~ 78 degrees ~ 10-12 Knots ~
Chip & Michele (Miller Lite)

Got a relatively early start at CGSC, a little after 9 am & on the bay sailing by 10 am. Headed South w/Main & STD Jib, didn't tack for 2 1/2 hrs.

Christine still sluggish on tack (likely cause bottomside needs good scrubbing) so jibed to make the turn.

Had close encounter w/50+' power/luxury boat taht steamed past during jibs - likely jealousy!

Back to CGSC, on dry land a little after 3:00 pm.
